We all know about the green witch of Oz who flies with her broom and sings Defying Gravity in a stage. But before it was presented in a musical play, it was first a glorious piece of art called book.
I just finished reading Wicked, and I have to admit that even though it is quite a boring read at first, it turned out to be one of those books that is hard to put down. The book is a masterpiece made out of magic, love, devotion, cursed souls, and evil things. But more than that, I love the way Mr. Maguire touched the actual issues of discrimination, favoritism, prejudice, and a number off levels of injustice.
If you want to experience the cities of Oz before the arrival of Dorothy or the Wizard, before there was an arbitrary designation of Witches in each of the Oz’s corners, Wicked by Gregory Maguire is the book to read.
Grab this book, and get to know the most misunderstood citizen of Oz — the Wicked Witch of the West.
